Over the last year we have shown films, published newsletters and sponsored concerts at the Scandinavian Centre.
CFF also sponsors a group that meets to discuss the work and life of Finland’s national poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg.
One of our most successful events was the Christmas concert on December 3rd, 2010.
We invited the Finnish Choral Society from Seattle and the Runeberg/Norwegian choir from Vancouver to participate.
It was a memorable evening with good entertainment and an abundance of food.
We will have a similar event on November 5th this fall.
In February we hosted the annual Runeberg birthday celebration with music, entertainment and of course more food.
In April CFF presented Part one of the films Under the North Star (Täällä Pohjantähden alla) Part two is coming on October 16th.
Our spring newsletter came out in May and had many interesting articles.
We welcome articles from anyone who is interested in writing about subjects related to Finns and Finnish culture.
CFF participated in the Scandinavian Midsummer festival with a display and information table in the Finland tent.
All of our events are funded by the money we receive as donations, membership fees and the proceeds from the Christmas Craft Fair table.
Currently we have 107 members. Fortunately we have managed to be self sufficient and just recently donated $500 to Finn West.
All this would not be possible without the volunteer work of members who spend many hours planning and organizing.
Much of this work is done by our Board Members. One of our Board members has set up a blog site on the internet.
All our events are posted there as well as links to other sites with Finnish themes.
Members of CFF Board are: Fred Levo, Yasushi Yashimura, Mabel Eastwood, Doris Helgren, Veikko Niemela, Lindsay Krause, Christina Yli-Luoma, and Dianne Kilback.
We plan to carry on with more of the same in the coming year.
Dianne J. Kilback
President
