Le Havre (2011)

Aki Kaurismäki’s second French language film

In this warmhearted comedy-drama, Marcel, a former bohemian and struggling author whose life revolves around his wife (Kati Outinen), the bar and his job as as shoeshiner, tries to save an illegal immigrant boy from the police with the aid of his friendly neighbours. 

The film premiered at Cannes in 2011 where it received the International Federation of Film Critics Prize for best film.  The dog, Laika, also won a prize there for best performance by a canine.
